HSBC MasterCard Project
When HSBC MasterCard decided to launch their new "Smart Card" back in 2002, amazingly, they thought of LEGO. That was good news for those of us who belong to the New England LEGO User's Group because it gave us the first opportunity to pool together our collective talents and try to build a super-sized version of the new card. Built 4 studs deep, 3 feet high and 5 feet long, the credit card was constructed in a vertical manner where bricks were stacked one on top of the other. This building method results in a smooth finished product where the side of the bricks are used to create the final product. No glue was used in the creation of the card, so a plywood packing crate had to be constructed in order to ensure safe delivery. The whereabouts of the LEGO card are now only known to the new owners at HSBC.
