The Leonard Zakim Bridge

In the Summer of 2002, the New England Home Show contacted NELUG and asked us if we were able to help them out with a display for their upcoming event.  The Big Dig was in full swing and they were hoping for something that would draw in huge crowds from all around the New England Area.  Thinking BIG, we decided to go with two major works - a Mosaic and a Bridge.

The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge is by far the most recognizable triumph of the new Central Artery Tunnel Project.  Our LEGO representation of it stood 7 1/2 feet tall and spanned over 16 feet in length.  Fortunately member Eric Kingsley has a very supportive wife who allowed us to build the bridge in her living room over the course of two weekends.

After the show, the bridge was displayed only once more as a window display for the Construction Site toy store in Waltham, Massachusetts before we disassembled it and used the pieces to create the Robotic Mining Quarry for the LEGO Road Show in the summer of 2003
